Linux client available!

Posted on 27th June 2009, 20:40:33

We mentioned this 3 months and 15 days ago, and here it is. A fully functional Linux client for WhatPulse!

The client has the basic features you'd want, and there will be updates along the line to get it up to speed with the features of the other clients.

It has been tested on several Linux distros and found to be capable of running on the latest mainstream ones.

There are two binaries for your downloading pleasure, a dynamic and a static (Qt) linked one. You will need at least Qt 4.5.0 (http://www.qtsoftware.com/downloads) to be able to run the dynamic linked one.

To organize things a little better I have set up a redmine tracker for reporting bugs/feature requests.

    @Shawn
    Like I said, _working_ mac client.
    The download at 'Downloads' is not compatible with the current architecture of OS X, the download at the forums crashes instantly.

    Both the Mac version and Linux version are still in betas. Problems are to be expected.

    @BobL
    When version 2.0 comes around for each client maybe all the developers should get together and create one client, then build it for each OS. It seems like it would be easier going that way than creating a different client for each OS.

    Why not? In the long run it would make life a lot easier. One codebase to manage instead of 3 or more.

    Even though there are ways of doing it, all ways are completely crap. If there was a decent method of coding for all operating systems, all companies would do it.
